Wow, it has been over a month since my last post, which was about “The Truth About Obamacare!”.  I think it has taken a month just to deal with how bad this “law” is for us Americans.  Well, thankfully, despite human disasters like Obamacare, we have a beautiful day that we will celebrate this coming Thursday – Thanksgiving!  There is so much to be thankful to God for!  This is what Thanksgiving Day is all about.  Yes, there is the great food.  There is the coming together of families, relatives and friends.  And then of course, there is football – now 3 NFL games to watch!  But above all these things that we enjoy on Thanksgiving Day, there is the Giver of them all – God Himself.  He has given us so much – the gift of life, the gift of our health, the gift of family members, relatives, and friends, the gift of creation (especially our animal companions – personally I’ll be having my first Thanksgiving with my dog that I adopted in July), the gift of our Catholic Faith – what better way to start our Thanksgiving Day than to go to Mass on Thursday and receive the Body and Blood of Jesus (“Eucharist” the Greek word for “Thanksgiving”), the gift of our religious liberty (which we still have – for now), et cetera.  Let us spend every day of our lives giving thanks to God, but especially on Thanksgiving Day.  God Bless!

The Truth About Obamacare!

A retired Constitutional lawyer has read the entire proposed health care bill. Read his conclusions and pass this on as you wish. This is stunning!

The Truth About the Health Care Bills

Well, I have done it! I have read the entire text of proposed House Bill 3200:
The Affordable Health Care Choices Act of 2009.
I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law. I was frankly concerned that parts of the proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional. What I found was far worse than what I had heard or expected.
To begin with, much of what has been said about the law and its implications is in fact true, despite what the Democrats and the media are saying. The law does provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by  members of the medical profession.
The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business, and put everyone into a government run system. All decisions about personal health care will ultimately be made by federal bureaucrats, and most of them will not be health care professionals. Hospital admissions, payments to physicians, and allocations of necessary medical devices will be strictly controlled by the government.
However, as scary as all of that is, it just scratches the surface. In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices. Instead it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government that has ever occurred, or even been contemplated. If this law or a similar one is adopted, major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have been destroyed.
The first thing  to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government. The Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number of different areas over the lives of the American people, and the businesses they own.
The irony is that the Congress doesn’t have any authority to legislate in most of those areas to begin with! I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S. Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to regulate health care.
This legislation also provides for access, by the appointees of the Obama administration, in direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution, of all of your personal healthcare information, your personal financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and hospital. All of this is a protecting against unreasonable searches and  seizures. You can also forget about the right to privacy. That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th Amendments may provide.
If you decide not to have healthcare insurance, or if you have private insurance that is not deemed acceptable to the Health Choices Administrator appointed by Obama, there will be a tax imposed on you. It is called a tax instead of a fine because of the intent to avoid application of the due process clause of the 5th Amendment. However , that doesn’t work because since there is nothing in the law that allows you to contest or appeal the imposition of the tax, it is definitely depriving someone of property without the due process of law.
So, there are three of those pesky amendments that the far left hate so much, out the original ten in the Bill of Rights, that are effectively nullified by this law. It doesn’t stop there though.
The 9th Amendment that provides: The  enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people;
The 10th Amendment states: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are preserved to the States respectively, or to the people. Under the provisions of this piece of Congressional handiwork neither the people nor the states are going to have any rights or powers at all in many areas that once were theirs to control.
I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea. This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights. Article 6 of the Constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to “be bound by oath or affirmation to support the Constitution.” If I was a member of Congress I would not be able to vote for this legislation or anything like it, without feeling I was violating  that sacred oath or affirmation. If I voted for it anyway, I would hope the American people would hold me accountable.
For those who might doubt the nature of this threat, I suggest they consult the source, the US Constitution, and Bill of Rights. There you can see exactly what we are about to have taken from us.

Pope Francis and “Liberal Catholics”

I remember being glued to the TV for those two days of the Conclave, waiting to see the white smoke come from the chimney in St. Peter’s Square.  Then the moment of great excitement and anticipation had arrived, with the whole world waiting to see who was going to be the next Pope.  We were introduced to our first Latin American Pope in the man formerly known as Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio.  “Pope Francis” was introduced to the whole world.  After speaking in beautiful Italian, Pope Francis then humbly bowed his head, asking everyone gathered in St. Peter’s Square to pray for him.  In his short six months as the Vicar of Christ on earth, Pope Francis continues to be a great spiritual leader and example for the whole world, and especially all Catholics.  He is the third Pope in my lifetime, following the beautiful footsteps of Blessed Pope John Paul II and His Holiness Benedict XVI.  What amazes me so much and makes me appreciate my Catholic Faith even more, is the different personalities and style of each of these three Popes, yet the continuity of our beautiful Catholic Teachings!  Pope Francis has been especially unique in his way of being attractive to “liberal Catholics”.  I use this title in quotations because I personally don’t like the title.  I prefer to say that there are those baptized Catholics who practice and love their Catholic Faith, and then there are many baptized Catholics who are always trying to live their brand of Catholicism, picking and choosing which teachings and Commandments of the Church that they want to follow (i.e. “liberal Catholics”).  With this in mind, it has been a very interesting week for Catholicism.  Pope Francis gave three interviews in Italy that were recently published in the very liberal “Catholic” magazine known as America.  In these interviews, Pope Francis spoke of the need for members of the Church to present the WHOLE faith to others.  He said, “the Catholic Church sometimes has locked itself up in small things, in small-minded rules.  We have to find a new balance, otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel. The proclamation of the saving love of God comes before moral and religious imperatives.  Today, sometimes it seems that the opposite order is prevailing.”  The secular media loved the Pope’s words and ran numerous articles of how the Pope has now changed the Teachings of the Catholic Church.  The “liberal Catholics” immediately jumped on board.  Unfortunately for both groups, they will be disappointed to find out that the Pope hasn’t changed anything about our beautiful Catholic Faith.  Whether it be abortion or same sex “marriage” or whatever other moral issue that the secular world and “liberal Catholics” have problems with, all they have to do is not only look at who Pope Francis is and what he has always taught as a priest, bishop, and then Cardinal, but also study the history of the Church.  In our 2000 year history, the Catholic Church has ALWAYS taught that ALL human life is sacred, that Marriage is ONLY between one man and one woman, that homosexual acts are sinful, et cetera.  In other words, the Church has always taught the Teachings of Jesus Christ Himself.  The Pope’s recent remarks serve as a great reminder that our Catholic Faith is more than just about stating what we believe.  He challenges us to also live our faith in a relationship with Jesus Christ.  The more that we fall in love with Him, the more that we will want to follow the “rules”, and then be able to present our Catholic Faith in a more appealing way to those who struggle to embrace the Faith.  May the Pope’s words and actions continue to inspire everyone, especially those who have left the practice of their Catholic Faith (“liberal Catholics”), and even those in the secular media, that they may embrace “the saving love of God”.  God bless!

What Ever Happen to Professionalism in the Workplace?

I went to the Family Dollar Store the other evening and as I was looking for different items on my list, two workers were having a loud conversation with one another, even though they were in different aisles.  The male worker then made a very lewd, sexual joke toward the female worker.  He looked at me as though I was supposed to laugh at his remark.  Instead I decided to just stare at him and then go on my way to shop.  Unfortunately this incident is not an isolated one these days.  I remember being at a Dunkin Donuts where the workers were publicly conversing with one another, using the “F-bomb” in their conversation.  Even this morning as I was having breakfast at a diner, the cook yelled from the kitchen to the waitress while she was waiting on me and my guest (who is currently visiting me for a bit before he goes back to Nicaragua).  And the list goes on and on.  Of course, the more we drift away from God in society, banning prayer and any references to Him in public, this lack of professionalism is not surprising.  Morals are at an all time low, which also is not surprising, because there is no accountability before God.  Let us pray first and foremost for the renewal of family life, where religion and morals are first taught.  Let us pray for parents to be parents in raising their children, bringing them to Church and teaching them the difference between right and wrong.  May all of us put the love of God as our first priority in this life on earth, so that we may then truly love our neighbor.Image 




Going to War?

We are a very critical point in our nation’s history.  It seems like we are on the verge of going to war with Syria.  The evidence seems to be clear, that over 1000 people were killed in Syria by chemical warfare, and by their own president.  How should the United States react to what happened?  Should we go to war with Syria over what happened in their country?  I do not know if there is a clear answer to these questions, but I do know that every American should turn to prayer at this critical moment.  Hopefully, war can be avoided.  Let us pray for the “leader” of our country to make the right decision, and that he consults with his own congress before making this decision that will affect so many.  What I would like to point out in the midst of this difficult moment is the sheer hypocrisy of our government “leaders”.  The Secretary of State John Kerry said that what President Assad did was a “crime against conscience, and a “crime against humanity”.  Obama also spoke of the heinous crimes that were done to the Syrian people by their own president, mentioning that children were killed. He said that “we can not accept a world in which people are gassed on a terrible scale”, and that “we don’t want the world to be paralyzed”.  It is hard to take both of these men seriously in what they say because of their full on support for the death of innocent children in the womb through abortion.  Both of these men not only support the right to kill innocent children in the wombs of their mothers, but also advocate this “crime against conscience” and “crime against humanity”.  The little, innocent victims of abortion are even being killed “chemically” by such CONTRAceptives/abortificients such as the morning after pill, the IUD, the NuvaRing, and even high dosages of the birth control pill.  “Chemical warfare” against our own people has been happening for over 40 years now, and the current “leader” of our country has no problem with it, even adding insult to injury by asking God to bless one of the major suppliers of these chemicals used in the warfare against the innocent, in the organization known as Planned Parenthood.  My brothers and sisters, let us pray for our nation and its leaders.  Let us pray that we don’t need to go to war, that the peace of Christ reign in the hearts of all leaders throughout the world, and that we as a nation stop the genocide that is going on in our own country.  God bless!

Being Tolerant

What does it mean to be tolerant?  “Tolerance or toleration is a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc., differ from one’s own; freedom from bigotry”.(Wikipedia)  The phrase “being tolerant” is commonly used today with the acceptance of anything, even when it includes immoral and evil things.  Being a Catholic priest faithful to the Teachings of Jesus Christ that have been handed down to us through the Church, I’m considered “intolerant” when I stand up for these Teachings, especially when it comes to the protection of innocent life in the womb or preserving the sacredness of Marriage between one man and one woman.  Yet the same people who accuse the Catholic Church for being intolerant, usually are the most intolerant themselves.  I just read the following article from “”: Abortion Activists Rip Out Pews, Spray paint Profane Graffiti in Catholic Church.  These actions in Chile, Spain, and Belgium were done because these proponents of death (abortion) didn’t like the views of those who believe that every human life is sacred and deserves protection, from the moment of conception to natural death.  Let us pray for those who are confused, thus supporting immorality and evil.  And let us all be truly tolerant of others, yet always remaining firm in the Truths that has been given to us by Jesus Christ.

New Assignment

I arrived at my new parish of Sacred Heart in Woonsocket, RI, on Sunday, June 30th, 2013.  As a “Pastor” for the first time, I felt mixed emotions between excitement and fear.  I was excited to be a Pastor, and extremely grateful to Bishop Tobin for making this possible.  Yet at the same time, I had a lot of fear of the new responsibility and task that lay ahead – administrative details including financial matters, making decisions for the Parish, as well as dealing with my own personal weaknesses and failings, trying above all with the help of God’s grace to be a holy and faithful priest.  Well, it has been almost two weeks since I started, all I can say is thank you Lord!!!  The people here at Sacred Heart are simply wonderful.  Everyone has been so welcoming and nice.  As the days go on, I have more excitement and less fear.  Whether it be offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the people, or hearing Confessions, or having a meeting with a parishioner or group of parishioners, or simply just walking/running through my new neighborhood with my new “assistant” Trooper (4 year old lab/retriever mix), everyday has truly been a blessing from God.  As I arrived here almost two weeks ago, one of the first things I did was to go into the beautiful Church and reconsecrate myself to Jesus through our Blessed Mother’s intercession.  With them in my corner and even leading the way, how can I go wrong!
